Good Afternoon!
What a wonderful first week back we have had in class 1! The children have continued where they left off in October and they have certainly returned to school full of enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. It has been wonderful hearing about all the fantastic things they have been up to over the holidays.
Change of PE day: This half-term PE will now take place on a Wednesday and Thursday.
Maths
In maths this week the children have spent time developing their addition skills. They have investigate number bonds to 10, the addition symbol and number sentences and addition within 10. Next week, the children will start the week by exploring word problems, we will then delve into subtraction by finding a part, exploration of fact families, taking away by crossing out and exploring how many are left.
English
In English this week the children have been so excited to finish our unit on Aliens Love Underpants. The children spent time writing sentences with verbs to describe how their aliens move followed by revisiting their work on adjectives earlier in the unit. Revisiting their previous work allowed the children to then create sentences which not only described how their aliens moved but how they also look. The children have created amazing sentences and should be proud of themselves. Next week, we will start a new unit on instruction writing and will be linked to the book Beegu.
In your child’s book bag I have popped in a copy of this week’s spelling list. Additionally, I have assigned a game on the PurpleMash platform (login details can be found in your child’s reading log). You can also see a copy of this week’s spellings below:

Maths
In maths the children have been working really hard on their addition within 10 and as we near the end of our addition within 10 unit, I think it would be really beneficial to revise our addition skills. Therefore, I have found this fun game that the children can play:
