This week your learning and activities will all be about VE day, Victory in Europe, which takes place on Friday, a special 75th Anniversary.
What is VE Day?
VE Day, which stands for Victory of Europe Day, was the day on which allied forces announced the surrender of Germany in Europe on May 8th, 1945. It marked the end of Adolf Hitler’s reign and was a cause for celebration all over the world.
At 3pm that day, Prime Minister Winston Churchill told the nation that the war was over. In London, a crowd of 50,000 celebrated the momentous event in Piccadilly Circus, cheering and waving flags in the street. This year is particularly important, given that it’s the 75th anniversary of VE Day.
We will be learning about what VE day is, why it is celebrated and a bit about World War 2.
Mrs Atkinson and I have put together lots of fun activities for your week.
I have emailed you 2 Power points which help explain VE day in a child friendly way.
