Good Afternoon Class 1,

Wow! What another busy first full week in Class 1. The children have spent time in Science learning about the different seasons and what changes we see across the seasons. In History we have considered questions that we would like to answer about Amy Johnson. In PE we have played hockey. The children really enjoyed their Jigsaw lesson with Mrs. Atkinson and sang their hearts out in Music. Next Tuesday afternoon we are going to be visiting the church as part of our RW lessons.

Maths

In maths the children have continued their unit on place value. We have explored counting, grouping and representation of numbers using objects.

English

In English the children have continued with their learning linked to character descriptions. We spent time learning the key vocabulary in the book and getting to know the key characters as well as sequencing the story through drama. Next week, we are going to identify nouns and verbs that describe how the squirrels move.

In your child’s book bag I have popped in a copy of this week’s spelling list. Additionally, I have assigned a game on the PurpleMash platform (login details can be found in your child’s reading log).

Reading

Please ensure that you complete a minimum of 3 reads.

RWI Home learning:

Practice your  story green words and red words from your home reading book on a piece of paper at home. These can be found on the How to help your child read this book page.

Challenge: Can you use the words in sentences?

Maths

This week I would like you to play Bud’s number garden to practice number recognition. Please follow the link and follow the in game instructions (you might need an adult to help).

Request

When picking up at the end of the school day, please ensure that you are able to pick your child up from the class 1 outdoor area. Since returning to school, we have had a couple of instances where parents/carers have been waiting on Church Drive and they have asked for the child to be sent down the path and round to them. In the interest of safety for your child we cannot do this. At the end of the school day there is a lot of traffic movement on Main Street and Church Drive which presents a danger to the children. If you are unable to collect from the Class 1 outdoor area, we will need to wait until all of the other children have been picked up before we can walk your child round.

Have a great weekend!

Mr Mallison
