Good Evening Class 1!
Well here we are at the end of the penultimate week of the half-term. The past 7 weeks have flown by and I am sure that next week will go in the blink of an eye. I am very much excited for next week, it is going to be epic! We will start the week with our trip to Hull and then we will dive head first into art week, I am so excited and I am certain that we are going to have so much fun!
Maths
In maths this week the children have had a tricky week exploring fact families, number bonds within 10, systematic number bonds and number bonds to 10. Despite finding the work a little bit tricky, the children have applied themselves really well and shown grit and determination to develop their understanding.
English
We have laughed so much in English this week (the children are really enjoying this unit), especially on Thursday when the children were tasked with creating 4 of their very own aliens. The children had such good ideas and really enjoyed talking about their designs. Moreover, the children enjoyed writing sentences about the characters from Aliens love Underpants, we did find it a bit tricky when we focused on the use of adjectives and conjunctions, however we persevered and we are developing this skill nicely.
In your child’s book bag I have popped in a copy of this week’s spelling list. Additionally, I have assigned a game on the PurpleMash platform (login details can be found in your child’s reading log). You can also see a copy of this week’s spellings below:
Reading
Please ensure that you complete a minimum of 3 reads.
RWI Home learning:
Practice your story green words and red words from your home reading book on a piece of paper at home. These can be found on the How to help your child read this book page.
Challenge: Can you use the words in sentences?
English
I have noticed that some children are struggling with their letter names, therefore I thought it may be beneficial for them to have a go at the following game:
https://www.turtlediary.com/game/what-letter-is-it.html
The game is rather basic, however it will give the children the opportunity to cement their knowledge of letter names.
Maths
The children may also enjoy the robot addition game from last week too!
The children may benefit from using objects to help them add, such as cubes or pasta…anything they can use to count really. I would start with the yellow robot and then move on when your child is feeling comfortable.
