Good Evening Class 1!
I hope I find you all well this evening?
What a lovely first week back following the very early Easter break, I hope you all had a relaxing break and managed to rest up. The Spring half-term this year was unusually short due to when Easter Weekend fell, therefore the Summer term is going to a rather long term this year. However, the children have bounced in this week with bags of energy and I have been immensely impressed with their attitude to learning and energy.
In maths this week we have completed their Mass and Volume unit in which the children have compared the volumes of items as well as measuring and comparing the capacity of objects which has also entailed multi-step problems involving addition and subtraction. Next week, we will start our Multiplication and Division unit, which I am very much looking forward to and I am sure that the children will enjoy learning how to multiply by 2, 5 and 10. We will also seek to identify equal groups and add equal groups.
English
In English we have commenced our new unit; Diary writing using Dougal’s Deep Sea Diary as our inspiration. The children have loved this book and have come up with many ideas for Dougal’s next adventure. This week we have made predictions as to what we think will happen in the story, identified the key features of a diary, practiced using capital letters and writing in the first person.
RWI Home learning:
Practice your story green words and red words from your home reading book on a piece of paper at home. These can be found on the How to help your child read this book page.
Challenge: Can you use the words in sentences?
English
To support our English development I would like you all to have a go at the punctuation game on Small Town Superheroes. Focusing in full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks and questions marks. If you follow the instructions on the screen, I’m sure you’ll be absolute whizzes on the games.
Adults: You may need to read the tasks to your child, to help them identify missing punctuation.
Have a great weekend!
