Good Afternoon Class 1,
Wow! What a busy first week back at school following the half-term break, I cannot believe how much we have crammed into the week.

Maths
In maths the children have been working with Miss Day on Place Value within 50. Miss Day is very pleased with the progress that the children are making and she is full of praise for the work that the children are completing. This week the children have counted from 20-50, explored 20,30,40 and 50, counted by making groups of 10 and partitioned into tens and ones.

English

In our English lessons we have started a brand new unit based upon the short film Something Fishy (https://www.literacyshed.com/something-fishy.html). I was a little bit worried that they wouldn’t enjoy this unit as much as the Little Red Riding Hood unit because of how engaged they were, but I am pleased to say that watching clothes turn into sea creatures in a washing machine has been a hit!
The children have described characters, items from the film and written sentences/expanded noun phrases about the setting.

RWI Home learning:
Practice your story green words and red words from your home reading book on a piece of paper at home. These can be found on the How to help your child read this book page.
.

Challenge: Can you use the words in sentences?
Maths
In our maths lesson on Friday we commenced work on our knowledge of the 2x table, we will continue to work on this next week in our quick starts. Therefore, it would help if the children practiced a little.

When accessing the Hit the Button site, select Times Tables and then choose x2 on the Answer side of the page. Don’t worry if your child struggles at this stage, it is our first attempt.
Have a great weekend
Mr Mallison
