English

Help me! I got myself all jumbled up with the story! Can you help me put it back in the correct order and retell it properly?

I have set this as a 2do on Purple mash or you can draw pictures, act it out or retell it to a brother or sister.

Art / DT

Can you create your own beanstalk, it could be 3D or just a drawing or a painting. Use the ideas on the pic collage posted for some inspiration!

Monday 20th April

Hello! I do hope you all had a lovely Easter and enjoyed the wonderful sunshine – I definitely did! I have been busy in my garden planting lots of seeds and I know some of you have too. If not, I hope you will be able to get some seeds and have a go at planting for our science work.

I will be posting a maths activity each day, which will be using the White Rose maths resources. These will include videos to watch and activities to do. I will also be posting a science activity each week and other activities over the coming weeks including ICT and Geography.

Please keep us posted on how you are doing and send pictures using the Class 1 email. I am also available to answer questions and help with anything I can. I will be checking the email daily so hopefully will get back to you quickly.

Maths

This week we will begin by looking at: Comparing, describing and solving practical problems for mass/weight: [for example, heavy/light, heavier than, lighter than]; capacity and volume [for example, full/empty, more than, less than, half, half full, quarter]

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/ Follow the link and watch the video for lesson 1: introduce weight and mass, then have a go at the activities. Can you find objects around the house and garden and compare them? Which is heavier and which is lighter?

Science

In science over the next few weeks we will be observing how plants grow. I would like you to plant at least 3 seeds; beans or sunflowers are good. Over the next few weeks I would like you to observe what happens and keep a diary of what you see. Once the plants begin to grow, can you use your measuring skills to see how tall it is and record this in your diary? Draw a picture or take a photograph of what you see and label it. Describe what is happening. I have planted some beans – check your email to see my bean diary so far!

Use your 3 seeds to investigate what they need to grow: Plant one seed, place in the light and water regularly. Plant one seed and place in the light but do not water. Plant the last seed, place in the dark and water regularly. Can you predict what will happen? What do you observe? What is the same? What is different? What have you learnt that plants need?

Be patient, it will take a few days for your plants to begin to grow.

Don’t forget to check Purple mash for activities and have fun!

English

The next 2 weeks will be spent completing tasks and activities based around Jack and the Beanstalk.

Today I would like you to read the story or listen to the story being read to you, following the words, on epic! reading. Then take the quiz answering the questions about the story.

Just search for Jack and the Beanstalk and it is the book by Naomi McMillan.

Summer term!

We hope you have had a wonderful Easter and some lovely days.

We are all ready and excited for our new term and our new theme, we hope you will be too!

We have put together lots of ideas and our plan for the next few weeks. Maths and English activities will be updated daily and activities for other subjects such as Science, Music and Art will be updated on different days through the week. If you have any of your own ideas please feel free to do these too!

I know some of you have been doing some growing and planting in your garden already, if not it would be great if you can get your hands on some seeds next time you are at the shops!

Looking for something interesting to do during the Easter holidays? Why not have a look at the Active East Riding web offer? It has lots of ideas for children and adults – discover things you can do, learn from, and take part in whilst at home.

Fun filled day in school on Thursday!

Activities

Ready for the Easter weekend, why not have a look on the website or download the app for make time to play! Lots of fun play ideas for at home.

Alfie helped me read one of his favourite stories today. I think you will like it, it’s very funny and a bit silly!

Why don’t you have a go at writing your own version of Old MacDonald. You could use new animals that he could see or he could hear something like in this story. Be as fun and imaginative as you want!

If you don’t want to write a new one, you could have a go at changing the ending to this one, who did Parp at the end…

I have been enjoying writing some poems so I thought you might like to have a go. Write the letters of your name down the side of the page and think of a word to describe yourself beginning with that letter. I did one for Alfie,

You could even try and write one for different members of your family or your friends!

Your poems are amazing! I have really enjoyed reading them, they are fab and describe you all brilliantly!

Maths: Number of the day.

Why not have a go at making a number of the day poster like the one below and each day complete the questions with a new number!

Word Ladders

Have a go at a word ladder. Start with a 4 letter word change 1 letter in that word and write it underneath, change another letter to create a new word and so on, see how far you can get!

During the the holidays I will post occasionally with new ideas of activities but absolutely no pressure to complete these, only if you want to! Keep reading as much as you can and Mrs Atkinson and I have set some more 2do’s on Purple mash, some of them with an Easter theme!

Here are some links to some Easter related activities and booklets,

I have put these on as photographs so if you are unable to print you might be able to colour them /complete them on the computer or on a tablet.
